How to pull your Canadian credit report (for free!)

A lot of tenant clients I work with are unsure of the best free way to get their credit score and report. I thought I'd make a little post to clear up a common misconception and share the steps for pulling a credit report to share with a prospective landlord or their agent.

Off the bat, checking your own credit score through these methods will not affect your score, as it's considered a 'soft inquiry'. To learn more about the difference between a hard and soft inquiry, check out here.

In terms of the source of your credit report, I've found that most landlords and realtors prefer the report to be directly from Equifax. Here is the link to get the free version which includes your full report + score.

Another free site you can get your credit report through is Borrowell. Borrowell uses Equifax to generate their reports, but I have found sometimes the score can be slightly off from your score through the official Equifax site. While Borrowell does allow you to easily download your entire report, a lot of landlords/realtors are not familiar with the service and may not accept it.
