Documenting Rental Condition

This one may seem obvious to some, but over the years I’ve seen many disputes between tenants and landlords regarding wear and tear on rental units at the termination of the tenancy. A scratch on the floor, a cracked stovetop, a dent in the wall - you name it.

For this reason, anytime you are starting a new lease somewhere, I highly recommend you go around the unit and document any damage you don’t want to be accused of causing. Take photos of everything and send an email to the landlord CC’ing yourself as proof of the condition of the unit at the start of your occupancy.
